Tempestade
Brazilian Portuguese originals
O vento vira o rio
antes da chuva.
Palha solta
bate no abrigo
– asa curta.
Corro até o esteio
abraço a madeira molhada.
Clarão –
o céu se rasga.
Depois o peso.
Trovão dentro do peito.
Um sapo entra aos pulos
para junto da panela virada
como se já soubesse o lugar.
A terra muda de cheiro
de uma vez.
A enxurrada busca saída
entre as botas.
Quando tudo afrouxa
o rancho pinga em vários pontos.
Deixo a chuva sair primeiro
antes de pôr o corpo na estrada.

Storm
Translation · Tempestade
The wind turns the river
before the rain.
Loose straw
beats against the shelter,
a short wing.
I run to the post
embrace the wet wood.
Flash,
the sky tears open.
Then the weight.
Thunder inside the chest.
A frog jumps in
beside the overturned pan
as if it already knew the place.
The earth changes smell
all at once.
The runoff looks for an exit
between the boots.
When everything loosens
the hut drips in several places.
I let the rain leave first
before putting my body on the road.
